Comment: Yu Watase, Fushigi Yugi: Friend (Viz, 1992) We left Miaka and friends stranded on what seemed to be a desert island at the end of book seven. In Friend, they find they're actually in Nucheng-Kuo, an all-female province where men are regarded as the enemy. Uh-oh... to make things worse, Soi, one of the Seiryu celestial warriors, has located them and is pursuing. (Side note: did anyone else get to the big revelation about Soi and think "huh, I just kind of assumed that to be the case."?) While the series has taken on a decidedly darker bent in the past few volumes, Fushigi Yugi is still an amusing series and a lot of fun to read. A great intro to manga for those who've never read it before, or a fun series for the experienced. *** ?
