Summary: The End of the Mangaverse
Comment: So I was a fan of Marvel's Mangaverse books from the beginning. I own the first two trades and have Legend of the Spider Clan individual issues. I also purchased Mangaverse X-men recently. More on that on it's own page though. This is about the New Dawn digest. I was actualy very pleased with this pocket sized trae. The colors came acrross good, the image integrity was kept, and I could read everything without glasses. So it's not that small.
The story was pretty good too. It was fun and there was just enough mention of the events from some of the other books to tie everything together. However there were some inconsistancies with the other books, mostly character design. Not the small tweaks artists do when they take over the book but MAJOR changes. The Devil Hinter (Daredevil) character from Legend of The Spider Clan was awesome, and yet there's a wholy different character, cool looking but NOT the same. I dealt with it because the character wasnt a major one. Other than that it was just great. Though I do wish they still published full size versions.

Summary: A cute alternative for manga fans
Comment: Marvel's "New Mangaverse" is about as far from the "real" Marvel Universe as you can get. The copy of "Rings of Fate" that fell into my hands apparently comes after a great deal of backstory in previous volumes, but even without that background material, I enjoyed the tale.

Things are going badly for the costumed set in the Mangaverse. Spider-Man and Spider-Woman, a pair of young ninjas from the Spider Clan, are among those dodging a worldwide assault on heroes. And this isn't some half-hearted effort by cackling villains; the good guys are dying in droves. New allegiances are forming, new heroes are rising from the ashes and, through it all, the main characters maintain the cheerful and perky enthusiasm that marks a lot of the manga I've seen.

Of course, being manga, the women are all small-bodied, big-breasted and possibly underage, but hey, if you don't like that sort of thing don't pick up a book with the word "manga" on the cover.

This Mangaverse will never replace the main and Ultimate Marvel universes in popularity, I think, but it's fun, refreshing and, dare I say it, cute. It's a nice change, a treat to read and I certainly wouldn't mind coming back for another visit.

Summary: Not Exactly Earth-Shattering
Comment:
My main problem was that the book itself was too small, roughly the size of a DVD case. That would be fine for a normal print book, but is far too small for a graphic novel.

The artwork was enjoyable, but the story itself was middle of the road. Check out the Marvel website under Digital Comics for a copy of the first issue and decide if you want to read more.
