Summary: Just can't stop the twists......AWESOME
Comment: Man the last volume lift you not knowing what kind of deal Fai has to deal with now with Yuko to save his life, but Fai wants to die so the colon will also die as while. But wow it's not just him that has to pay now but someone among them. Will this change the relationship among the team for ever or change this for the better good. Sakura is also going through some hard time aswell for the suffering Fai lost eye. So much emotions in every volume. I love this series but to bad the anime was a let down badly. They finally got the last book out in Japan, which makes 24 to this series. So that makes this series the longest of Clamp's wonderful creations. Which I love the begining of this series and not one of these volumes has let me down. But I will say the 3 OVAs was just great, they will be making the last OVA to complete the ending of this awesome series to give it closure. Which I can't wait till they come out in the US cause they are worth to watch. Remember this has 24 volumes set now, so we just got 7 more awesome books to go.

Summary: Daddy's Gambit
Comment: In the last volume, we saw what Fai was willing to do for his ragtag family. Now it's Kurogane's turn with Fai lying minutes away from death, the clone running rampant heaven knows where with half of Fai's magic, and Yuko confirming that there is a way to save Fai - but with the look on her face usually reserved for when she's about to tell either Watanuki or Domeki something they're not going to like hearing and she's not going to relish telling. The only bright spot of the situation is Sakura's rescue by AU Subaru Sumeragi - apparently still gentle and compassionate for all that he's a vampire in Acid Tokyo - allowing Kurogane to focus on the most immediate of several crises at hand.

Kurogane dislikes some aspects of Fai's personality, but as his attemps to get Fai to spill the weight on his soul to him if not necessarily the kids indicates, he certainly doesn't hate him as much as he makes out or perhaps would even like to. As the volume opens, Fai seems to be at peace with dying to stop the clone. But Kurogane - panicked at the thought that they might actually lose Fai, furious at Fai for giving up, and probably feeling slightly lower than pond scum being that their last full conversation basically turned into a one-sided fight on his part - isn't about to let him give up that easily. So it is that Kurogane ignores Fai's express and lucid wishes and makes a decision for both of them involving help from the vampire twins that will change Fai - and their relationship with eachother - forever.

It's a decision which will likely prompt much debate among fans. Fai's refusal to take into account how the kids would feel if they lost him could be considered selfish; but the price for keeping him alive could very likely be worse than death - especially for someone who clearly does not take guilt well at all.

The issue between the two men, however, might be small peanuts compared to Fai's fury when he regains consciousness and finds out that Kurogane - knowing that Sakura might never forgive herself otherwise - has allowed their foster daughter, guilt-stricken that she wasn't there for Fai at the moment that everything changed for all of them, to undertake a dangerous mission to complete the payment for Fai's life...

Another beautiful, emotional volume.

Editorial Reviews:

BATTLE AT DEATH’S DOOR!

In mere minutes, Fai will be dead, and Kurogane’s only hope to save him is to make a deal with Yûko the witch, a woman he has never trusted. The deal sends Kurogane–alone–into the worst danger he has ever faced.
